Why I'm such a dick.posted Sep 19th 2008, 4:17PM
I honestly don't care if people think I'm good or not. I don't have any wish for the artist to look up to me for turning their life around. In fact, I'd rather they fix themselves up, and think, "Boy I sure showed Simon Cowell. He said that there was no hope for me, and here I am with a big music career."
I don't want any credit, and I don't want any admiration. I do everything for all of you, and all of them. However, I think that these artists are all capable of creating some really great shit, and they'll never move away from the "Anime Crutch" or the "Marvel Comics Style Crutch" or the "STYLE crutch" if people constantly give them positive approval.
"Your criticism would be more well received if you gave it to people nicer."
I don't want it to be well received. I want it to hit them in the face and shock them.
Maybe I want to come off as an arrogant eccentric. By being an arrogant eccentric, and by looking better than the person I'm criticizing, I'm harder to ignore, and my point seems to come DOWN from the SKY rather than up from the dirt.
And maybe it depends on the person. Popular artists hear so much praise that it all blends together. An insult in a sea of niceness STANDS OUT. Did you know that I also, from time to time, coach beginners? I give them compliments, and lots of positive reinforcement, when the rest of the website tells them how terrible they are. It's because one diamond in a sea of piss STANDS OUT.
Yes, people would like me better if I was nicer, but the impact of my critique would be much much less. I'm not giving criticism to make the artist happy, I'm giving it so that they'll get better.
You're better off not explaining those things to me, I'm not really going to bother reading it.
You wouldn't even know me if it wasn't for someone's negative actions.
Get off of my page, Troll. Don't you dare hit me with threats of aggravated assault on my own page. I've already reported you for that horrible comment.
The offending comment should read, "You're better off not explaining those things to me; I'm not really going to bother reading it. You wouldn't even know me if it weren't for someone's negative actions."
In so not offending him, you appeared to have offended him. From what I understand, the comment was telling you to better yourself. By ignoring it, you said, "No, I refuse to better myself, and you're best off not ordering me to be not that which I enjoy being, bad."
If you're to cease contact with him, I'd advise your best action not to respond to this comment, as it is, if you're unaware, on HIS userpage, not YOURS.
